Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), assemble excavators, and drill the wells themselves, especially in remote locations. They are also part of the repair team, problem solvers, and facilitators.

Taylor Sheridan makes her female characters very shallow, even though they seem strong, so this series is no different. But the show is a winner for me because Billy Bob steals every scene; even the ones where the half-naked women appear! The portrayal of the oil business is probably very true to the industry’s management.

His female characters are very flawed

BB has the best lines to portray the value of oil and what makes the world (oil) go round. The settings are great, the workings of the equipment are actually quite enlightening. I just don’t get why the daughter is such a bimbo and the wife is such a loser, but I guess that’s Sheridan’s way.

He’s brilliant

But if you want great lines and Billy Bob Thornton at his best, watch this show.
