A new animated film is sneaking into theaters called HITPIG!. Based on the children’s book Pete and Pickles by Berkeley Breathed, this one is about Hitpig (Jason Sudeikis), a pig hunter who returns escaped animals to their owners. Right off the bat, the title doesn’t make sense, like a pig hunter doesn’t kill anyone. It should probably be called something like PETE THE BOUNTY HUNTER or PETE AND PICKLES. He is literally named Hitpig. Along the way, he meets Pickle (Lily Singh), an elephant who has escaped from the deceitfully arrogant Leaping’s Lord of the Leotards (Rainn Wilson). They form a bond that makes Hitpig question his career and life. This movie is great. I realize it wasn’t made with my mind. The humor is everywhere, sometimes aimed low for kids, sometimes aimed high. Lots of butt jokes. The story moves a mile a minute, sometimes literally, not letting you breathe. The characters all talk fast, but I was happy to hear Hannah Gadsby as the sassy koala. While the movie seems low budget, I’m surprised it made it to the theaters. There are some good scenes about the family you choose. Hitpig! A good movie in my opinion, but instantly forgettable and not worth spending money on, unless you have a young child with ADHD who loves loud noises and bright colors.
